Earlier this year we explored how San Diego Real Estate Agents were utilizing technology to grow their business, operations, and client relationships. We were definitely on to something… As predicted, HTML 5 and The Cloud have become part of every tech-savvy Agent’s lingo. The iPad… well when we reported in April there had been 55 million iPads sold. As of this printing, over 100 million. We think it will be around for a while. Check out our App. Instagram has also become a monster hit, purchased by Facebook for $1 billion and up to 100 million users (from 27 million as reported in April!) DocuSign, Pinterest, and Pandora are still hot apps for both work and play for local realtors.
Ever feel like the sooner you dive in to a new tech/social/mobile/virtual trend the sooner it changes? Over the last 10 years technology has transformed how we live & work and with each new development the waves of change come more and more rapidly. Rather than fight it or get lost in the fray of new gadgets/apps/sparkly-things, the shortest route to tech love is information.
HTML 5
This most recent incarnation of the website building code has made some major advancements. Why do you care? Skipping the technical jargon, what you need to know is this; HTML5 allows web developers to use one technology to build sites that work across different device types. This means you would not need a separate app for android, iphone, blackberry, or any of the different tablets. You would not need a separate app at all, saving money and time. Mark Lessing, NAR’s senior vice president & chief technology officer told Inman News® earlier this year that Realtor.org would be launching a beta site with HTML5-based responsive design that automatically adjusted to the screen size of whatever device a visitor was using. Pretty cool stuff.
Heads in the clouds
Cloud based transaction and business management seems to be solving multiple problems in one virtual cirro-cumulus poof. Paperwork never where you need it when you need it? Documents in the cloud can be accessed from virtually anywhere with your phone, your tablet, your computer, or even someone else’s computer. You can also set up a team account so everyone has access to the same documents that can be updated by multiple users instantly from anywhere. Too much actual paper? With the proper backup plan in place the cloud can also serve as your virtual file cabinet making a paperless office a real reality.
ifttt > if this then that
Is keeping up with your virtual world more chaotic than the real world? Connect the chaos with this clever and incredibly useable new software. Not just a way to consolidate your social media, although it does that too, ifttt connects over 40 “channels” of your virtual life, from craigslist to sms text to Evernote. The premise is so simple it’s genius; If “this Happens” then “do this”. Take multiple steps in one: if I “update my facebook profile picture” then “update it on twitter”. Track your day/schedule: if I “check in on foursquare” then “add the information to my google calendar”. The possibilities are endless.
