High rolling Las Vegas
HOW DOES A MOBIL FIVE-STAR INSPECTOR SPEND THEIR DAY? HERE IS AN INSIDE PEEK AT THE WINING, DINING, AND HARD WORK THAT GOES INTO INSPECTING A LUXURY HOTEL.
As an inspector for Mobil Travel Guide, the creator of the country’s oldest and most respected star rating system, planning a guys’ weekend out on the town is never part of the job description, but being able to recommend a great destination for one is something I am always asked. Las Vegas, with its nightlife, shimmering casinos and dazzling restaurants, is what I always suggest for a great five-star guys’ getaway.
In a town that’s growing daily, it’s sometimes hard to keep up with the newest hot spot or latest celebrity hang out. But staying at Las Vegas’ very first Mobil Five-Star hotel, the Tower Suites at Wynn Las Vegas, will not only make you feel like a celebrity, it will keep you at the epicenter of Las Vegas excitement and action.
This property won our top honors for both its luxurious hotel and its acclaimed restaurant Alex. This hotel is located in the heart of the Las Vegas Strip and offers enough dining, shopping, gaming and night life that you won’t have to leave the property at all. Most of the rooms are suites, so ask when booking your trip about the various styles to select from. They are the ultimate in luxury and offer spacious rooms that are contemporary yet elegantly appointed with a vast array of amenities. My favorite is the Parlor Suite, which has a wet bar in the foyer and separate living room, the perfect setting for entertaining. Request a suite on a high floor to get the best of the stunning views of the Strip or the golf course.
Whether you’re planning a bachelor party or just a weekend away with the fellas, call the hotel’s concierge and do a little preplanning prior for your trip. They can work their magic and secure your dinner reservations at the Mobil Five-Star restaurant, Alex, and maybe even a private dining room where you can feast on the amazing cuisine of Chef Alessandro Stratta. His French influenced menu includes everything from a quail and foie gras terrine to pancetta-wrapped venison with morels. Don’t forget to advise the guys to suit up-jackets aren’t required at Alex, but the atmosphere is so smart you’ll be glad you wore one.
Have another night in town to stuff yourselves silly? Then head to the only other Mobil Five-Star restaurant in Sin City, Joel Robuchon. Located a short trip down the Las Vegas Strip fromthe Tower Suites at Wynn Las Vegas, in the MGM Grand Hotel complex, this restaurant is a playground for Chef Joel Robuchon, who prepares sophisticated and delicious French cuisine in a small dining room that feels incredibly exclusive.
When it’s time to work off some of those well-worth-it calories, try the Wynn’s night club Tryst. The concierge can call ahead and have your name put on the guest list so you can scoot right past the velvet rope. Of course, you and your buddies chose Las Vegas for the gambling, and you won’t be disappointed with what the Tower Suites at Wynn Las Vegas has to offer. From roulette and black jack to video poker and slot machines, the casino offers something for everyone’s tastes.
What’s a guy’s getaway without golf? The Tom Fazio-designed 18-hole golf course is just out the back door of the Tower Suites and is exclusive to Wynn guests only. Don’t worry if you forgot your clubs; the pro shop can loan you a complete Calloway set of clubs. From fully stocked golf carts, caddy service and full service locker rooms; this championship course has it all.
Nowadays, guys aren’t afraid to indulge at the spa and the Spa at Wynn Las Vegas is the place to do it. This Mobil Four-Star spa has a men’s lounge with a huge fl at screen television (set to a sports channel, of course) and barbershop services provided by Truefitt and Hill. From the massages to the steam room and plunge pools, this a great place to hang out and relax after a long night out on the town. Don’t forget to book your spa treatments ahead of time, along with those tee times, as they tend to book up quickly.
After enjoying the endless nightlife, a round of golf, an amazing meal, soothing spa treatments and a luxurious stay, it’s time to packup and say goodbye to the Mobil Five-Star Tower Suites at Wynn Las Vegas.
