The Champagne Lifestyle is on Display at the San Diego International Auto Show

If you like your martinis shaken, not stirred, then you’ll be sure to appreciate at least one of the luxury vehicles that will be on display at this year’s San Diego International Auto Show, set to run Dec. 31 – Jan. 4 at the San Diego Convention Center.

The vehicle in question is the Aston Martin DBS, the very car (that seems like such an inadequate word in this case) used by that ultimate spy, James Bond (Daniel Craig), and seen in the most recent Bond adventure, Quantum of Solace. But this sleek and powerful luxury vehicle is only one of many that will be on display in the Ultimate Ridez Expo area at the show.

Side by side with the DBS, show goers can view the newest Audi super car, the R8; the Versace edition of the Lamborghini Murcielago  LP640; the Spyker C8 and Porsche Carrera GT.  Oh, and for those that prefer a slower-paced luxury vehicle, there’s the Rolls Royce Phantom.

Whether pure luxury is your taste, or you prefer the combination of luxury and performance, you apatite is sure to be sated.

San Diego Auto Show Shows its Green Side

Wildly popular “Eco Center” returns to San Diego

The San Diego International Auto Show (SDIAS) announced that its popular Eco-Center will return as a main feature of the 2009 show. With its debut last year, the San Diego International Auto Show became the first auto show in North America to dedicate a significant portion of floor space to the promotion of environmentally-friendly vehicles and technologies. Time has proven that show organizers were on to something, and with the volatility of gas prices over the past year, coupled with the ongoing emissions debate the Eco Center is even more relevant today.

The Eco-Center is designed to demonstrate to consumers the various technologies available on today’s vehicles and to show technologies that are just beyond the horizon that could positively impact our fragile environment. Entertaining and educational displays on current technology such as diesel and electric-hybrids will demonstrate to consumers just how easy it is today to own a vehicle that will decrease fuel consumption, and reduce harmful emissions.

This year, the Eco-Center will be replete with examples of eco friendly vehicles and lifestyle tips that will educate young and old on how to apply conservation to our everyday lives. The Electric Vehicle Association of San Diego will display vehicles that exemplify ingenuity and prove that, with dedication and elbow grease, any number of vehicles can be converted to an electric vehicle. On display from Association members will be a Solar Beetle, a futuristic egg-shaped plug in electric vehicle actually built in 1973, and many others.

Of course, the major global automakers will be well represented, showing hybrid variations of some of their most popular models. Completely putting to rest the notion that the modern diesel engine can’t be green, Volkswagen will exhibit its 2009 Jetta TDI, which was recently named Green Car of the Year by Green Car Journal. Hyundai and General Motors will also be showing its latest technology in this sector.

Finally, the San Diego Environmental Foundation will again provide an interactive learning experience during Family Day at the auto show, Sunday, Jan. 4, 2008.

Lexus RX 400h Made History as Industry’s First Hybrid Luxury Utility Vehicle

The Lexus RX 400h was the first full hybrid luxury-utility vehicle when it was introduced in 2005. The RX hybrid received styling and equipment enhancements for 2008 and carries into 2009 unchanged. The RX 400h hybrid combines the power of a 3.3-liter V6 gasoline engine with that of an electric drive motor to deliver performance on par with some V8-powered luxury SUVs, but with better fuel efficiency. The all-wheel-drive RX 400h’s EPA-estimated city/highway rating is 26/24 mpg, with the front-wheel-drive model rated at 27 mpg city/24 mpg highway.

Coming for 2010…

Lexus Stages World Debut of All-New RX 350 and RX 450h 2010 models at Los Angeles Auto Show

Lexus unveiled the all-new, next generation RX 350 and RX 450h hybrid at the Los Angeles Auto Show.  At the heart of the new RX models are two improved powertrains. The RX 450h will feature an enhanced Lexus Hybrid Drive system with a 3.5-liter V6 gas engine that runs on a highly efficient Atkinson cycle. Combined with a new, more efficient inverter, the total system output will be 295 horsepower, 27 more horsepower than the current generation RX hybrid. Another step in the Lexus Hybrid Drive’s evolution is the addition of two new systems that improve its efficiency. An exhaust-heat recovery system reduces engine warm-up time allowing it to stop earlier, more often, and for longer period and improving  both fuel economy and emissions. The second is a cooled exhaust-gas recirculation system that reduces engine pumping losses, which also helps to improve economy. For More information visit
