Thursday Oct 6, 2011 A few words from the man who gave us, inspiration, ideas, ideals, innovation, it could go on forever…
I will have a fun introduction to our brand new cover home tomorrow. This morning though I wanted to take a moment to Thank Steve Jobs. If anyone reading this doesn’t have some sort of Apple product around them I would be shocked, and if that Apple product isn’t one of your very favorite things I would be completely floored. His contribution was much more than just “things” though, it was striving for an ideal. I don’t know that anyone could sum this all up better than the man himself so here are some of his words I find particularly inspiring and intuitive. Thank you Steve.
“That’s been one of my mantras — focus and simplicity. Simple can be harder than complex: You have to work hard to get your thinking clean to make it simple. But it’s worth it in the end because once you get there, you can move mountains.”
— BusinessWeek interview, May 1998
“Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking until you find it. Don’t settle.”
– Stanford commencement speech 2005
Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.
– Standford University Commencement, 2005
“My model for business is The Beatles. They were four guys who kept each other’s kind of negative tendencies in check. They balanced each other and the total was greater than the sum of the parts. That’s how I see business: great things in business are never done by one person, they’re done by a team of people.”
— Interview with 60 Minutes, 2003
“The most compelling reason for most people to buy a computer for the home will be to link it into a nationwide communications network. We’re just in the beginning stages of what will be a truly remarkable breakthrough for most people–as remarkable as the telephone.”
— Playboy interview, 1985
